Have you ever purchased an IP camera but the customer support is really bad? We all do it. At one point or another, we’ve all been that customer that has purchased a product that doesn’t work. Whether it’s a digital camera, an iPhone, or even a ring camera.

It’s a terrible feeling, right? We’re so excited to purchase a product and the seller tells us that our camera isn’t working.

But what if the camera works great and it’s just the settings that aren’t correct? We’ve come across this problem before and in this post, we’ll share our tips for resetting a digital camera.

This includes a step-by-step guide on how to reset your Ring camera and other IP cameras. So without any further ado, let’s dive in.

What Does A Resetting Of A Ring Camera Mean?

It means that you can make all of your settings right again! And in some cases, this is possible even if you don’t have an Apple user account.

Here, we’ll cover what it means, how to reset your camera, and even how to restore the camera’s original settings.

Before we begin, let’s talk about the types of settings you can change on a digital camera. Most Ring cameras come with a variety of settings.

They usually include things like

  • A time-lapse setting
  • A timer
  • A night mode, and so on

How to Reset a Ring Camera?

For the past few years, Ring has been one of the top sellers in the home security industry. The Ring Cam has been around for quite some time and is very popular as it’s easy to install.

It is one of the best-selling IP cameras because it’s pretty straightforward to use and doesn’t require any extra skills or training. It’s also a relatively affordable option when compared to other security cameras available on the market.

Most people will probably purchase their Ring cameras for the price and quality they offer. But when the camera’s settings go wrong, the buyer will be left frustrated and in need of help.

Following are some easy steps that will help you to reset the ring camera. So let’s review them.

1. Remove Lens Cover:

If you look at any digital camera, you’ll see a cover over the lens. This is called a “lens cover.” These are typically made of hard plastic or metal, and they come in different designs. Some may have a design on the cover while others may be just blank.

To remove this cover, you must first remove the lens cap. Once the cap is removed, gently pull the cover off. Some lens covers can be easily removed by pulling on the top edge. Other covers require more force as the cover has a hole.

After you have the cover removed, look into the lens of the camera to make sure nothing is blocking the lens. If there is, gently push it out of the way. Make sure to turn the lens to 90 degrees to avoid damaging it.

2. Open The Battery Compartment:

This is something that most of us don’t think about until our camera stops working. If the camera battery is dead or damaged, you will need to open up the battery compartment and then remove the battery. Be careful when removing the battery, as the battery can get hot and you want to avoid getting burned or hurting yourself.

3. Pull Out The Circuit Board:

The main thing you need to do is pull out the circuit board from the inside of the camera. You must pull this out correctly. Also, make sure that there is no liquid or gas in the interior of the camera. If there is any of this then you can damage the camera, so you’d better be careful.

4. Remove The Memory Card:

This is the most important step to do on an IP camera. If you have no idea where the SD card is, you’ll be looking for it forever. It can be hard to locate a memory card in the dark or under a desk or other furniture.

To remove the memory card, first, connect the camera to the computer and open the camera’s folder. You’ll then see the SD card, which is most likely called Camera/DCIM.

Click on that folder and press Delete to delete all the contents of that folder and then press OK to return to the main camera interface.

5. Replace Memory Card:

If you are having issues with your digital camera, replacing the memory card will often fix the issue.

I always recommend using a spare card, because if you forget to do this, then the camera can become damaged.

A damaged camera can be repaired, but there is a small chance that it won’t work again afterward. This is especially true if the memory card contains sensitive information such as photos, documents, or business data.

6. Replace the Battery:

Some of the IP cameras are plugged with “user-replaceable batteries” (URBs). The URB has a small LED light on it to indicate if the battery is charging or not.

Most often, it shows the status in two states; “on” and “off.” But sometimes, you may see “1” or “2”. If you see the red “1” or “2”, then the battery is dead.

You need to replace it with a new one. If you’re using the Ring camera, you can buy the replacement battery from Amazon.

The new battery should be plugged into the same socket as your original one. But before you put in the replacement battery, make sure it works like a charm! If not, there’s no point replacing it.

7. Reassemble Camera:

If you purchased a digital camera, then the chances are that you have been given a remote to change its settings.

Sometimes, you may be stuck with a bad setting after a failed attempt to reset the camera. In this case, you need to reassemble your camera again.

For most cameras, this involves simply removing the back of the camera, unplugging the cable, removing the battery, and inserting it again.

8. Reset Camera Settings:

You can often fix most problems with a simple reset. If you’re having an issue with a new ring camera, follow along with this reset guide.
